Obituary for Louvinia Johnson Martin

Louvinia Johnson Martin "Vinnie", 99, departed this life Wed. Feb. 14, 2018 in Haven Hospice, Jacksonville, FL. Born in Williamsburg, VA to the late Albert and Sarah Hailey Johnson, she resided in Scotch Plains, NJ, Plainfield, NJ and at the time of her death Jacksonville, FL. Vinnie, as she was affectionately known, was formerly employed with the YWCA Day Camp Program for seven years and the Grant Avenue Community Center both in Plainfield.

Before relocating, Vinnie was a member of St. John’s Baptist Church in Scotch Plains for many years. Her other memberships include the following: Life member of .0 Club Exodus which was an affiliate of the NJ State Federation of Colored Women’s Clubs, Inc.; the Plainfield NAACP and VFW Auxiliary #6807 in Garwood, NJ where she was a Life Member. She was an avid bridge and pinochle player.

She is predeceased by her husband James “Jimmy” Martin in 1999.

She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter Vivian Loyed; 4 grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; her sister Juanita Toombs and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
