Quincy Lee Yarborough, Jr. was born on September 29, 1945 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey to the late Quincy Lee Yarborough, Sr. and Carrie Bell Yarborough. After a few years in Montclair, NJ, the family moved to East Orange, NJ. Here Quincy flourished and was recognized in the state for his athletic skills in football, basketball and track. He graduated from East Orange High School in 1964 and went on to further his education in the field of history and sociology at Colorado State University. While at Colorado State he became involved in the Campus Crusade for Christ. He later heard a calling to the ministry and earned a B.A. degree in Pastoral Theology and Biblical Studies from Northeastern Bible College, in Essex Fells, NJ. He received further theological training at Brunswick Theological Seminary, in New Brunswick, NJ, and studied in the field of Christian Counseling. He became a recognized Christian counselor by the American Association for Christian Counselors.

In 1969 Quincy married Phyllis Ina Keys Davis. During this time, he was licensed in Union Baptist Church of Bloomfield, NJ to preach the Word. From this marriage, they were blessed with three children, Daniel, Sean, and Tamara. In 1976, the family moved from East Orange and settled in Plainfield, NJ, where he enjoyed spending time with his family, and most importantly spending time with his children.

Serving on the ministerial staff as an associate minister at Messiah Baptist Church of East Orange, Quincy was ordained and continued his ministry with the youth. He later became the Interim Pastor of Calvary until his relocation to Chester, Virginia. In addition to his ministerial duties, Quincy worked for 30 years as a psychiatric technician at the Essex County Hospital Center in Cedar Grove, NJ.

Always concerned about people and community, Quincy served on the Patient Welfare Board of the Essex County Hospital Center for years working tirelessly for quality care of psychiatric patients. While working at the hospital, he was a substitute for the chaplain and rendered Sunday service for patients and staff. In 1992, he earned the outstanding Employee Award from the Essex County Hospital Center Patient Support Group.

The Plainfield Area YMCA has been a community passion for Quincy. He served on the Board of Directors for over 27 years, holding the positions of President, Vice President and Treasurer. He also was active with the Plainfield Area Urban Clergy. For his community service and professional accomplishments in the field of mental health and service to the community, he was a recipient of the New Jersey Minority Achievers Award in 2000.

After 30 years in Plainfield, Quincy and his wife Phyllis retired to Chester, VA in 2006. He continued serving in various ministries at The Saint Paul’s Baptist Church of Henrico, VA.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving and devoted wife Phyllis of 48 years, cherished children: Daniel Yarborough (Andre), Sean Yarborough (Chatice), Tamara Scott (Marlon); adored grandchildren: Julian, Justin, and Jasmine; a cherished sister, Vivian Bloodsaw Seals; loving sister-in-law, Evelyn Marshall; 6 nieces, a host of relatives, and friends.
