Brown's Funeral Home
Tyree P. Jones Sr. was born in Chase City, Va. and graduated from Thyne Institute High School there. He furthered his education by attending Knoxville College in Knoxville, Tenn. graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1949. He is a 1956 graduate of American Academy of Funeral Service in New York City. In the 20 year span from mortuary school to becoming licensed in 1976, Tyree worked in other positions outside of funeral service as well as at the funeral home. He worked for 25 years at the Perry Funeral Home in Newark, NJ retiring in 2000 while also managing the Brown’s Funeral Home. Tyree is a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
His memberships include the following: Bethel Presbyterian Church In Plainfield, Life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and the Plainfield Alumni Chapter, Stone Square Lodge #38 F. & A. M. Prince Hall Affiliate, American Legion Johnson Jeter Post #219 in Plainfield, Garden State Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association, National Funeral Directors Associaitation, NJ State Funeral Directors Association and the Essex, Union and West Hudson Funeral Directors Association.
His family members include his daughter Diane Jones Gentles, a son Tyree P. Jones, Jr. and his wife Melanie; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Diane L. Jones Gentles was born in Plainfield, New Jersey. She is a 1974 graduate of Plainfield High School. She furthered her education by attending Clark College now Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, Georgia where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration. She worked for two years at Johnson and Johnson Company in Skillman, New Jersey before relocating to California. There she was employed for 11 years with Miller Brewing Company.
Deciding to make a career change, she moved back to New Jersey and returned to school. She attended American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service in New York City where she received her certificate in mortuary science. Diane became a New Jersey State-licensed funeral director in 1993 and now operates the Brown’s Funeral Home, Inc. in Plainfield with her father Tyree P. Jones, Sr.
Her memberships include the following: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Theta Phi Omega Chapter, Epsilon Nu Delta Mortuary Fraternity, Inc., where she serves as the Regional Vice President, Garden State Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association, National Funeral Directors Association, Essex Union and West Hudson Funeral Director’s Association and the Lions Club of Plainfield where she serves as secretary.
She is the mother of two children Justin Gentles (Kia) and Jennifer Gentles and step-mother of Dionne Gentles. Diane is the grandmother of six and sister to Tyree P. Jones, Jr. (Melanie).
